So, you wanna be a Fairbanks Rollergirl. Right on! Look out for upcoming tryout dates on our events calendar. We hold periodic tryouts but due to the summer bouting break, we currently do not have any tryout sessions scheduled at this time. Please email us for more information on tryout dates, times, and skill requirements here.

In addition, we are always recruiting for our critical non-skating support positions - DJs, coaches, scorekeepers, statisticians, event volunteers.

If you've got derby in your blood, we're looking for you. If you are 21 or older, look for an upcoming tryout near you! You will learn new skills, meet other kick-ass Fairbanks women, get in shape, help build a non-profit business and bring a new sport to Interior Alaska.

So now what? Well, there are some things you need to know.

  •  There is a $35 fee due monthly. FBXRG is a non-profit organization and derby costs money! This fee helps cover the cost of practice space, training materials and medical supplies.
  • There is a one-time, $25 application fee. Incorporating a new skater into the ranks requires a lot of effort, time, and paperwork!
  • Participating in roller derby requires insurance coverage. Luckily we have USA Rollersports (USARS). Coverage is $55 / year. More information here.. »
  • The league practices Monday and Wednesday nights from 7pm to 9pm at the Boys and Girls Club. Take a look at the calendar.. »

Got all that? Great! Grab a pencil. Here's what to do:

Come to practice and check it out! Intorduce yourself to Bad Lady, the president of the league, or Juicifer, chair of the Retention and Recruitment committee. They will be happy to discuss everything and anything with you.

Get some gear! Though not needed for non-skating volunteers (DJ, announcers, helpers) anyone who wants to skate needs a few things: a helmet, a mouth guard, knee & elbow pads, wrist guards, and quad speed skates (no fruit-boots allowed!). Check out our links page for a great list of online retailers or check out some of your local sports stores.

That's it! Need more information? Contact the Recruitment and Retention Committee at recruit@fairbanksrollergirls.org.
